Rising Stars Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan Close In on Babar
Azam's ODI Rankings
In a recent development, two emerging talents from India
have achieved their career-high ODI rankings, making significant strides
towards challenging Babar Azam, the world's top-ranked batsman in the One Day
International (ODI) format. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have been turning
heads with their stellar performances in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.
Gill and Kishan Make Their Mark
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have made remarkable progress
in the ODI rankings, closing the gap on Pakistan's batting sensation, Babar
Azam. Despite Babar's dominant position in the ODI batter rankings, both Gill
and Kishan have showcased their potential during the early stages of the AsiaCup 2023.
During a crucial match against Nepal, Shubman Gill played an
outstanding unbeaten inning, scoring 67 runs. This performance catapulted him
to a career-high rating of 750 points, securing him the third position in the
ODI batter rankings. Notably, this achievement comes just a month before the
commencement of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
Ishan Kishan also left a lasting impression with his
brilliant knock of 82 runs against Pakistan in Pallekele. His exceptional
performance earned him a new career-best rating of 624 points and propelled him
12 places up the ODI batter rankings to the 24th position.
In the bowling department, Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi,
Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah have witnessed a surge in their ODI rankings.
Afridi, the pace king, recorded an impressive six-wicket haul in Pakistan's
first two matches of the 2023 Asia Cup, leading to a four-spot rise to sixth
place in the overall rankings.
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah also achieved new career highs in
their ODI rankings. Rauf climbed 14 spots to share the 29th position, while
Naseem Shah rose by 13 places to secure the 68th spot.
Babar Azam's Dominance Continues
Despite the impressive performances by Gill and Kishan,
Babar Azam has maintained his commanding position at the top of the ODI batter
rankings. He recently showcased his prowess with a sensational 151-run inning
against Nepal during the Asia Cup, underscoring his destructive capabilities.
Babar's total of 882 rating points solidifies his lead in the rankings.
In summary, the Asia Cup 2023 has witnessed the emergence of
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan as formidable talents in the ODI format. While
they continue to gain ground on Babar Azam, the Pakistani captain's supremacy
remains unshaken, exemplified by his recent masterclass against Nepal. The
cricketing world eagerly anticipates further thrilling battles and rising stars
in the realm of ODI cricket.
