Investigation Team Rejected the Imran Khan's Reply
Imran Khan stated that he received the notice just one
day prior, leaving him with limited time to respond. However, the Joint
Investigation Team (JIT) formed by the Punjab caretaker government refused to
accept the written reply submitted by Imran Khan, who is the Chairman of the
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The reply was regarding the investigation
into the May 9 riots.
Imran Khan did not attend the scheduled JIT hearing,
citing security threats, and requested to provide his statement from his own
residence. He pointed out that he had previously served as the country's 22nd
prime minister and had faced an assassination attempt in Wazirabad a few months
ago. Due to these concerns, he asked the JIT to consider the security risks and
the significant costs involved and to arrange the hearing at his Zaman Park
residence at a time convenient for them.
Imran Khan authorized Ali Ijaz Buttar and Naveed Haider
Panjhuta to represent him at the JIT hearing, convey his perspective, and
assist in completing the investigation.
However, sources from the Punjab government rejected
Imran Khan's request to submit a written reply instead of appearing before the
JIT and directly responding to their questions. They insisted that he must
attend the JIT hearing in person.
